This festival — called Nalukataq — is a tradition of the Inupiaq Eskimos of northern Alaska after catching a whale. Held the third week of June, locals celebrate the successful whale-hunting season by dancing, singing, eating traditional meals made with whale meat, and by burning campfires. They also have blanket tosses, where dancers are thrown high in the air from a blanket made of seal skins, as well as other activities. | Voice of America

Today's Nalukataq (blanket toss) at Sealaska Heritage was a huge success! The new walrus-hide blanket was made by visiting artist John Waghiyi from Savoonga and was completed just this afternoon.
