A Mesoscale Convective System is a cluster of thunderstorms that bring widespread heavy rainfall, strong winds, and consistent lightning. These occur mostly during the summer months as they feed off the summer instability. #meteorology #weather #radar #stem #thunderstorm | PA Weather Plus, LLC

Organized MCS ( mesoscale convective system) offshore! Thankfully right now it’s well offshore, will need to watch how much rain this throws inland. As well how close it can work to shore. Following the shelf warm front area for now. Heavy rain lots of lightning some high waves and strong winds the main concern right now. | Meteorologist Ross Whitley

Watching some stronger storms associated with A MCS (mesoscale convective system) that means a complex of storms have formed a small low. That low is starting to fade. Outside of our northern counties we might not see much rain from this. Once the low fades so will the storms. | Meteorologist Ross Whitley

Future radar shows the potential for an MCS (Mesoscale Convective System) looks around mid morning in the coverage area. Damaging winds will be the primary potential hazard. Large hail will be possible. We keep an eye on this through the overnight night hours and see how it evolves. 🌪️ Mesoscale Convective Vortex (MCV) Forms Over Northern Czechia 🇨🇿 Earlier today, a rare and visually striking Mesoscale Convective Vortex developed over northern Czechia, displaying a well-defined eye-like center. These rotating mid-level weather systems form from large thunderstorm clusters and can persist for hours, often sparking new storms, gusty winds, or hail. This MCV highlights unstable atmospheric conditions and high moisture levels in the region. Meteorologists are closely monitor

This is a development video of the rare and massive MCS (Mesoscale Convective System) that occurred on 12/01/2025 in NQ and CQ. This is one of the largest I've ever seen and was responsible for damaging wind gusts (100km/h ) in multiple locations in CQ and NQ. --- #timssevereweather | Tim's Severe Weather

GOES EAST is tracking a classic MCS (mesoscale convective system) in northern Texas and Oklahoma today via 1-minute imagery. This loop toggles between high resolution Visible and enhanced IR images just after sunrise when overshooting cloud tops and the anvil cloud edge cast very cool shadows in Visible imagery. Check out what's happening in eastern Oklahoma! #GOESEast shows a mesoscale convective vortex or MCV! Impress your friends with this science tidbit... Mesoscale convective vortex (MCV)—A low-pressure center within an MCS that pulls winds into a circling pattern, or vortex. With a core only 30 to 60 miles wide and 1 to 3 miles deep, an MCV is often overlooked in standard weather analyses. But an MCV can take on a life of its own, persisting for up to 12 hours after its parent MCS has dissipated.

Here is an animation showing two mesoscale convective complexes (MCS) merging in Texas last night June 3-4, 2018. The V-shaped notch shown in our previous post is the MCS on the right, which continued to move west and collided with a larger MCS coming from the west. The merger complex then disintegrated by dawn.
