The walls are up!! We framed in our porch because our current 16ft x 16ft cabin we live in full time doesn’t have a bathroom or a bedroom. The new deck framing is next ahhh #cabinbuild #homestead | Madison Clysdale

Part 2 building a big deck around a tree for our tiny homestead. We had to complete this before moving onto the extension insulation all of the framing (including the house) has to be inspected together. Next step, house wrap, insulation and stairs :) #cabinbuild #homestead | Madison Clysdale

The hardest task of our cabin addition so far 😅 Turning the porch into a bedroom/bathroom but it was over capacity. So we had to add a concrete post on each end of the porch and the 16ft triple ply 2x12 had to slide through the saddle all the way to the other side. #cabinbuild #homestead | Madison Clysdale

I moved across the country and visited countless places trying to find somewhere that felt like home. This is the first and only property I’ve ever looked at and immediately knew “this is it!!! This is where I want to exist”. I posted a full tour on my YT if you want to see more. I started these channels off camping and

Every fallen branch, animal trail, and mossy stone reminds me that we’re visitors in something much older and wilder than us. Can a person really own Mother Nature? I’m not so sure. But I’ll do my best to be a good steward while I’m here."

On multi day hikes every ounce matters 😅 3 things I’m no longer bringing: 1. A collapsible camp chair. It only weighs 2 lbs but after hiking 30km, my back would rather carry less than be supported by a chair. Instead I bring a sit pad which is also handy at the door of your tent. 2. Disposable travel toothpaste, I switched to tablets, they can’t melt or freeze and they’re super light. 3. Band-aids. Instead I use leukotape, it’s stay on for multiple days and can get wet. It’s so good to prevent

Having the time of my life if you couldn’t tell Our floors beams were 200% over capacity and needed a new support post. While digging we ran into huge boulders and to get the support forms deep enough we tried non explosive blasting. Dexpan is an expanding cement. Recommended to use 1 1/2” drill bit but our hammer drill struggles at that size. A 1” drill bit with holes closer together did the trick. #cabinbuild #homestead | Madison Clysdale

We can officially start building!!! The gnomes said so In all seriousness we’ve waited 6 months for our permits, and just before the first freeze we can officially pour concrete! We’ll also be ripping off the wall all while living in this tiny cabin. Excited but also we may be in over our heads #cabinbuild | Madison Clysdale

Part 1 building a wood shed with raw materials and giving dead trees a new life. A few thoughts from my first build - Day 1 of a 4 day process and I’m more tired than hiking 30km up a mountain - the inspo photos were created by chat gpt and I highly recommend to visualize your concept - Debarking a 9 foot tree takes about 3-4 hours by hand and uses muscles I didn’t know I had - creating something with your hands is the most rewarding feeling I’ve experienced - I had no idea what I was getting my

The reality of buying land even in rural areas ⤵️ hopefully breaking ground in the next month!! Here are our steps - step 1: if your structure is not categorized as a house already, it may be a “new home build” in which you’d either have to hire a builder (and can’t do it yourself) or apply and pass a test to be the owner builder (must live in the home for 1.5 years before you can build again). We applied for an exemption because it was less than 75% of our existing structure. - step 2: survey f

Logging and milling the first tree!! Creating a regenerative system to produce lumber for the house we plan to build with our own hands has made me feel so grateful and connected to this land. This cedar tree fell naturally the first week we took possession of this tiny cabin, at the entrance of the pathway to the fairy village guarded by a gnome. I like to think it was a gift from the land. It’s now our responsibility to manage the deadfall, leaving enough for wildlife to create homes but clear

I heard about this remote lake but there wasn’t great directions online. I planned the route on my @corosglobal watch based on word of mouth directions. (AD) #CorosPartner I tracked my route, taking noteworthy pictures along the way so I could share the exact route with Coros’ new 3D Flyover feature on their app. They already track all your metrics but now you can select photos and plug them into your route to remember and relive every adventure. I didn’t think I would love/depend on a watch bef
