Upfirer or Upfiring Module are also names for speakers which radiate sound upwards before the reflected signal arrives at the listening position.

Feb 6, 2005 · For sound I have a 5.1 setup with a Yamaha receiver that is about 10 years old. It does Dolby Digital and DTS. Is it worth upgrading the AV receiver to Dolby Atmos? I'd like to keep my speaker setup (3 front, two rear and sub). Or is a soundbar the way to go? Also, is Atmos effect added by the AV receiver, or is it encoded on the source material?

And also the Samsung 4K player along with the LG OLED 65 E6 I just popped in Jack Reacher and it says to enable bit stream out to enjoy Dolby Atmos. Just need the inputs for it for 7.1.2 .. jeez what was Sony thinking...how can you support Atmos in 5.1.2 and not in 7.1.2, all they needed to do is supply the height inputs. I just purchased the receiver so I need to see if I can swap it for a Sony 7.1.2 or other brand.

Mar 15, 2019 · Atmos and DTS:X are a complete processing system. The only way to get it is with a receiver or preamp with an Atmos processor. It can NOT just be added on. Now, there have been receivers for years that extrapolate height channels from traditional surround soundtracks, but for actual Atmos or DTS:X you must have a processor with Atmos and DTS:X.
