I want my photographs to embody a sense of warmth, intimacy, charm & contentment. Even though a photojournalistic approach my objective is to capture those sweet hygge filled moments. Even in my editing and post-processing I use a classic, minimalistic and timeless approach which adds to the timeless aspects of hygge.

So, in classic hygge fashion, Julia and I sat down at Dilworth Tasting Room one almost-rainy-late- afternoon-Tuesday on a plush, mustard-yellow couch with glasses of Pinot Noir and Malbec, and we talked Copenhagen, people, experiences, and, well, hygge.

Hygge photography is about capturing and preserving ordinary moments or special occasions so you can look back and cherish them for the rest of your life.

What in the world is 'hygge'? Imagine yourself in a warm, cozy room with the lights dimmed, candles lit, music softly playing in the background, and your favorite friends gathered. That feeling of cozy warmth, connection, and peace is hygge.

There are a couple of ways to photograph hygge: Zoom in on a specific object or symbol that represents hygge to you. 2. Find or set up a hygge scene or vignette. 3. Include yourself in your hygge image by using the time delay feature on your phone or camera. 4. Photograph someone else having a hygge experience!

We will look at creating and capturing beautiful and captivating still life with Soft and dreamy light, minimal colour palettes and rich earthy tones. Learn to harness your light and encompass the Hygge aesthetic in your photography. Simple. Beautiful.
