AMC Entertainment saw a record 8.8 million global attendance from 'Moana 2' & 'Glicked' Over Thanksgiving Holiday

AMC Entertainment Inc. ($AMC) shares were up nearly 2% on Monday after the movie theater chain said it set new records for the five-day Thanksgiving holiday, lifting retail sentiment. AMC said on Monday it saw nearly 8.

On Thanksgiving, millions of moviegoers flocked to the theater to watch three blockbuster films. Millions of others stayed home to watch the Macy's parade or NFL games.

Initially envisioned as a series for the Disney+ streaming service, "Moana 2" racked up a record $221 million from domestic ticket sales over the Thanksgiving period from Wednesday through Sunday. That surpassed "Frozen 2's" holiday haul of $125 million in 2019.

AMC said a record 8.8 million people took in the two blockbuster movies and other releases such as the action title “Gladiator II” and “Red One.”
