Several areas around Midland reported feeling the earthquake, as did some parts of Southern New Mexico, including Roswell, Carlsbad and Alamogordo. The earthquake happened at 12:33 MT/1:33 CT, on Friday, Feb. 28, about 16 miles southwest of Ackerly, Texas, according to the United States Geological Survey.

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Midland, Texas, followed by a 2.1 aftershock and several smaller quakes.
