Merritt hit the national scene after a breakout junior prep campaign and narrowed his options to Alabama and Nebraska after taking official visits to both schools during the summer. He chose the Tide in late June but flipped in favor of the Huskers by mid-November on the strength of coaching relationships and his belief in where the program is headed under coach Matt Rhule.
