NJ Transit officials said one of the agency’s trains was involved in an Amtrak wire issue that caused rail service to be suspended Monday morning and resulted in delays and canceled trains into the evening commuter rush.

NJ Transit rail passengers heading into or out of Penn Station New York faced delays of up to an hour Monday morning. Following an earlier suspension, Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coast Line rail service have resumed with limited service.

Commuters were moving again Monday after a major disruption on Amtrak and NJ Transit. Service between New York City and Philadelphia was fully restored by the late afternoon, with only minor delays. Amtrak cited overhead wire damage for the initial suspension earlier in the morning.

A pedestrian was hit and killed by an NJ Transit train in Middletown on Wednesday morning. The man was hit at 7:25 a.m. in the area of the Normandy Road bridge, just south of the Middletown station, NJ Transit said.
