Rodney Rice scored 26 points, Derik Queen had 19 points and 10 rebounds and No. 11 Maryland routed No. 24 Illinois 88-65 on Friday night in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals.

The Illini entered a Big Ten tournament quarterfinal matchup against No. 2 seed Maryland on a four-game winning streak that included total domination at Michigan, a gutsy comeback against Purdue and a 106-point binge against Iowa here Thursday. They’re also healthy and whole again — finally — and had started to seem mighty dangerous.

Illinois hoped to match up better with Maryland after it absorbed a 91-70 beating at home on Jan. 23 wih 7-1 center Tomislav Ivisic out of the lineup due to illness. But Ivisic and his teammates were almost helpless in the rematch as Rice went off early.

Coach Kevin Willard said that didn’t worry him — the Terps proved their coach right on Friday. No. 2 seed Maryland men’s basketball clobbered No. 7 seed Illinois, 88-65, in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
