Fieg and BMW's archival team set out to reimagine the iconic M1 with a catalog of archival, period-correct materials and the results are stunning. Starting with a 1981 BMW M1 E26, Fieg's first order of business was focusing the build on the color of Techno Violet, the revered purple first introduced on BMW's E36-generation M3.

The BMW XM Kith Concept has been presented at Art Basel Miami in the US, and follows in the footsteps of previous BMW/Kith collaborations including a 2020 M4 Competition Coupe and a 2022 i4 M50. The latest iteration was unveiled alongside a special, similarly specced M1; the XM is the first (and only) bespoke M car since the M1 from 1978.

Messing with the standard powertrain of a car as iconic as the M1 was not on the cards, so Kith and BMW have left everything standard. That means it continues to be powered by a 3.5-liter M88 inline-six engine with 277 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.
