In Massachusetts, it is not illegal to drive a vehicle covered in snow, however, drivers can be fined if the snow is considered an obstruction of sight or an unsecured load.
Laws vary by state, but drivers can still face fines or citations if snow or ice blocks visibility or creates road hazards.
In 11 states, including Alaska, Connecticut, Georgia, Tennessee and more, it is illegal to drive with piles of snow or ice on top of cars. These rules are known as "ice missile" laws, named after the deadly frozen snow piles that could fly off unkept vehicles and cause deadly accidents.
