Hammon served as one of Popovich's top assistants from 2014 to 2022 before taking over as the head coach of the Las Vegas Aces. She immediately won two WNBA titles and is certainly qualified to make the jump back to the NBA. She almost took over as the Portland Trail Blazers ' head coach but was beat out by Chauncey Billups.

I’ve decided not to return to the sidelines this season. Mitch Johnson and his staff have done a wonderful job and the resolve and professionalism the players have shown, sticking together during a challenging season, has been outstanding. I will continue to focus on my health with the hope that I can return to coaching in the future.

Gregg Popovich has confirmed he won't return to coach the San Antonio Spurs this season. Per NBA insider Chris Haynes, Popovich addressed the team on Thursday for the first time since suffering a stroke in November to inform the players he would miss the remainder of the season.
