CLEVELAND, Ohio - Ohio Senate Republicans say Ohio needs “adjustments” in the marijuana law voters approved for public health and safety. Democrats, on the other hand, argue the GOP is undoing the will of the voters because they personally oppose marijuana.

The Ohio Senate just made some big changes to the state’s law for adult-use recreational marijuana that the majority of Ohio voters approved in 2023. Republican lawmakers approved Senate Bill 56 on Wednesday,

The Ohio Senate has approved a bill to make significant changes to the state’s voter-approved marijuana law—by halving the number of plants adults could grow, adding new criminal penalties and removing select social equity provisions,

The bill would limit home-grow from 12 plants to six plants, reduce the THC levels in adult-use marijuana from 90% to 70%, and ban public consumption. The Ohio Senate passed a bill Wednesday that aims to significantly change Ohio's marijuana law.

The Ohio State Senate on Wednesday voted to approve SB 56, which would restrict some parts of Ohio's recreational marijuana laws that voters approved in 2023.
