Justin Verlander struck out one and allowed a solo home run while pitching two innings in his spring training debut for the Giants.
Holmes dominated the Houston Astros on Thursday as he went 3.0 innings without giving up a run. The former New York Yankees reliever has pitched six innings of scoreless baseball in spring training as he looks to be ready for the regular season.
Verlander said his average velocity in spring training has a tendency to oscillate from year to year. Early in his career, Verlander topped out at 92-93 mph, but would ramp up to triple digits by the time the season started. Other years, Verlander would sit in the mid-90s and maintain into the season.
Three-time American League Cy Young Award winner Justin Verlander turned 42 years old on Thursday. He is still hopeful of reaching 300 wins in his big league career.
