A 15-year-old boy is accused of calling 911 before gunning down his mother and sister inside their Texas home, and police are saying marijuana edibles may be a factor behind the violence. The incident happened at around 11 p.

In Texas, where I live, marijuana has long been illegal. Yet on a busy street in my Houston neighborhood, at least five stores within a half-mile of each other sell cannabis products that promise a strong high.

The legislation does not propose banning the sale of products containing CBD, although it’s often an ingredient in hemp-derived THC products. CBD has been federally approved for treating a form of childhood epilepsy, and there is evidence it could be used to treat anxiety disorders, pain, insomnia and possibly inflammation.

In total, 334 pounds of marijuana were discovered, and the driver was arrested and booked into the Leon County Jail. Their identity was not revealed by DPS.
