An asteroid is expected to make a “close pass” to Earth next month. In October, NASA confirmed that the asteroid, dubbed 2024 PT5, was first observed in August by the Sutherland, South Africa telescope of the University of Hawai’i’s Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System (ATLAS).

The stadium-size asteroid is considered a "potentially hazardous object," but poses no threat to Earth this year.

NASA Asteroid Watch shared in an alert on X that the asteroid “was first observed with the University of Arizona's Bok telescope” and that the “impact prediction” was made by the Scout system at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory Center for Near-Earth Object Studies.
