Broadway adaptations on the big screen are notoriously hit or miss. With the box-office success of "Wicked," analysts say it could encourage other studios to take part.

Wicked' doesn't need to defy any odds here! Director Jon M. Chu's hit musical adaptation opened to an estimated $114 million domestically, the biggest box office launch of all time for a Broadway adaptation.

Over at ScreenRant, while Rachel Labonte had a few “quibbles,” she described Wicked as a “near-perfect adaptation of the musical, and that’s taking into account how this movie only covers the events and songs from Act 1 of the original production. In her words:

Universal's Thanksgiving pic opened to an estimated $114 million over the Nov. 22-24 weekend, more than three times the previous domestic record-holder, 'Into the Woods.'
