Millions of Americans are facing winter conditions as back-to-back storms hit the Northeast with snow, ice and freezing rain.

The Great Lakes and Northeast bore the brunt of nasty winter weather as lake-effect snow piled up near the shores of Lake Superior, Lake Erie, Lake Michigan, and Lake Ontario. Winter storm warnings stretched from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to western New York.

The National Weather Service has issued multiple wind and winter alerts for various Northeast Ohio counties, starting Sunday night and lasting through Tuesday. A High Wind Warning is in effect from 4 a.m. on Monday to 1 a.m. on Tuesday. This is for: Gusts could exceed 50 mph and approach 60 mph, especially near the lakeshore.

A mix of snow and ice bore down on the U.S. Northeast early on Saturday, disrupting post-holiday weekend airline traffic and prompting officials in New York and New Jersey to issue weather emergency declarations even as the storm ebbed by mid-morning.
