A blanketing of several inches of snow greeted many Americans as they awoke the morning of Dec. 27 as a winter storm rolled through parts of the Northeast and New England.

People across Scotland are being warned to prepare for more snow and ice as the north and north-east of the country enters their ninth consecutive snow day.

A gust of 99mph has already been recorded at St Mary’s Airport on the Isles of Scilly this afternoon, the Met Office says.
