The Texas Panhandle is set to see the first of this frigid air blowing in from the north. By Thursday night, January 8, snow is slated to start blanketing the region. Through the next 24 hours, icy flakes will continue to fall as temperatures plummet to well below freezing.
Along with a substantial drop in temperatures, the front will also bring a chance of storms to parts of Texas, as well as snow to others.
After a line of severe thunderstorms swept through the region — including Oklahoma tornadoes— winter weather is returning to the Texas Panhandle.
With La Niña in place, snow is even less likely in South Texas this year, but history shows significant winter storms still occur from time to time.
Another strong cold front is headed straight for Texas as a polar vortex continues to send arctic blasts spinning off across the United States. Signs will begin to crop up across the Lone Star State by Thursday,

Blizzard Warning issued in Texas as winter weather hits parts of state
After record-breaking heat during Christmas across much of Texas, conditions have turned much colder during the final days of 2025.
Friday morning in North Texas is starting out 15 to 25 degrees cooler compared to Thursday, with temperatures in the 40s and low 50s. Expect a mix of sunshine and clouds into this afternoon with isolated storm chances, mainly southeast of the Metroplex.
