ARLINGTON, Va. − Two powerful weather systems were careening across the nation Tuesday, threatening to dump up to a foot of snow in some areas while snarling traffic, clogging roadways, shuttering schools and shutting down government offices.

Several storms are set up to track across the East Coast in the coming week. Expect a mix of rain, sleet, ice, and snow. The next storm is set to hit us Tuesday night, but with less accumulation than over the weekend.

Multiple rounds of wintry weather will march across the United States this week, with one storm expected to bring heavy snow to the Mid-Atlantic, from Washington, D.C., to New York, while another just behind it affects a stretch from Kansas City to Chicago.

New Jersey is bracing for a pair of winter storms this week, with the southern part of the state expected to be hit hardest. But every area of the state will likely see some snow.
