The United States is accusing Russia of a “dangerous and inexplicable escalation” of the nearly four-year war in Ukraine at a time when the Trump administration is trying to advance negotiations toward peace.

Polish fighter jets have been scrambled on its border with Ukraine, after the Ukrainian capital Kyiv was hit by Russian missiles and drones overnight.

The Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile was said to be used in the attack on Lviv, about 60 kilometers (37 miles) from the Polish border, marking the first ballistic missile attack against the city during the war.

Data from Flightradar24 showed that the airspaces in two Polish cities were not operational due to an “unplanned military activity”.
