Minneapolis city leaders split over how to handle evictions in wake of Operation Metro Surge.

Minneapolis City Council members are set to hear a report on Tuesday that outlines how Minneapolis police handled situations that arose during the height of Operation Metro Surge throughout the city.

The ordinance will move to Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey's desk, where he can approve or veto it.

Samsung bought City Center in 2018 for roughly $320 million. The company failed to refinance a roughly $200 million mortgage when it matured in January 2025, and a loan servicer report shows most of Target’s buyout, about $97 million, was applied to reduce outstanding debt, according to the Star Tribune.

Renters facing eviction in Minneapolis could soon have twice as much time before a landlord can file an eviction notice, after the City Council approved a temporary ordinance extending the pre‑eviction notice period from 30 to 60 days.

Minneapolis officials say speeding decreased significantly at several intersections after the city installed traffic safety cameras last fall.

The City Council last week passed a rule for landlords to give 60-day eviction notices rather than 30. They say it gives people more time to make ends meet.
