Microsoft has unveiled its first AI superfactory, linking large AI datacenters in Wisconsin and Atlanta through a dedicated fiber network designed for high-speed movement of training data. The design places chips close together across two floors to increase density and reduce lag.

Microsoft used its Ignite conference to outline a series of updates to the Microsoft AI Cloud Partner Programme, introducing new initiatives intended to help partners accelerate AI adoption and develop capabilities associated with Frontier Firms – organisations that typically outperform peers through faster innovation and sustained skills development.

Microsoft Foundry customers will now be able to access Anthropic’s frontier Claude models including Claude Sonnet 4.5, Claude Opus 4.1, and Claude Haiku 4.5. Despite these models coming to Microsoft’s AI servers, Amazon will still remain Anthropic’s primary cloud provider and training partner.

The announcement is a key milestone for Microsoft, which has ambitions to double its data center footprint over the next two years. The new Atlanta site is part of the company’s larger “Fairwater” network, which is a new class of server hubs that’s dedicated to training and running AI models.
