A holiday parade in Fremont Saturday was cut short because of a second-alarm fire. Fire crews say they were able to get to the fire on Sandown Road quickly. On Saturday just after 4 p.m., Fremont officers saw a vehicle speeding and driving recklessly in the area of Osgood Road, south of Auto Mall Parkway, the department said. A traffic stop was initiated but the car allegedly sped away from the scene. In the interest of public safety, police said they decided not the chase the car.

Fremont officers responded to the area of Fremont Boulevard and Delaware Drive and found a person down in the roadway. Emergency crews took the victim to a local hospital, where they later died. Police say the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation as the Traffic Investigations Unit works the case.
