A rare Babe Ruth rookie card discovered in Danvers has sold at auction for $812,724, well above estimates. The 1916 card, which was included in 10-cent loaves of bread sold by the Morehouse Baking Co. in Lawrence, features a young Red Sox pitcher who would go on to become the most famous baseball player of all time.

The Danvers man then revealed to Gross that he had a never-before-seen 1916 Babe Ruth Rookie Card while on the Red Sox. That card was just sold by Robert Edward Auction House. The bidding began at $150,000 on Nov. 22 and closed on Dec. 8. The winning bid was $812,724.

A rare baseball card found in Danvers, Massachusetts, has sold for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Last month, Jeff Gross told NBC10 Boston that he met a man at a family estate sale in June who had a 1916 Babe Ruth rookie card that was part of promotion from Morehouse Bakery.
