Vance Luther Boelter, 57, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing a Minnesota Democratic state lawmaker and her husband while posing as a police officer, Governor Tim Walz said.

On Saturday, Walz said Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were “out of surgery,” and their nephew Mat Ollig told the Star Tribune on Sunday they were “both awake now and recovering,” noting a bullet that struck Hoffman “barely missed his heart.”

The man police said shot and killed one Minnesota lawmaker and wounded another was captured after a nearly two-day-long manhunt. Vance Boelter was arrested Sunday, charged with two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder, The Associated Press reported.

Jail records indicate a federal charge against Boelter, which could keep him in custody, even if he could post bail.

Vance and Jenny Boelter own a home in Green Isle, Minn., in Sibley County, which is about an hour’s drive southwest of the Twin Cities. Onamia, where Jenny Boelter was pulled over, is about 125 miles north of the couple’s home.
