First of all, it’s not “a” Wasatch. It’s THE Wasatch. As in, the Wasatch Mountains, which are in Utah. Totally makes sense. It’s apparently a word in the Ute language that means “mountain pass.”

The Utah Hockey Club's Utah Wasatch nickname idea didn't last long. It has been dropped for a previous option after one night of fan voting.

Wasatch, named for the Wasatch mountain range in Utah, has been swapped out with Outlaws, the team announced on Thursday. It will join Hockey Club and Mammoth, which made the final four after an initial fan vote last year, as the three options fans will be able to vote on during the team's current four-game homestand.

Less than 24 hours after naming Wasatch to the list of three finalists for the new nickname of the Utah Hockey Club, it has been axed from consideration.

Fans of the Utah Hockey Club will have the chance to pick the official name for the team but this time the vote will include a last minute replacement.

If you didn’t like the Utah Wasatch as a replacement name for the Utah Hockey Club, don’t worry. Smith Entertainment Group announced on Thursday that due to fan feedback, that name is out of the running. It will be replaced with the highly requested Utah Outlaws.

The U.S. government struck down the Yeti name because the trademark request was too likely to “cause confusion” with the Yeti cooler brand. As long as they did not spell out “YETI” on their merchandise, they could use the name, but that wasn’t going to be worth it.
