TORONTO (AP) — Hannah Miller scored a power-play goal with 1:38 remaining in the game, lifting the Toronto Sceptres to a 3-1 victory over the Boston Fleet in the Professional Women’s Hockey League season opener on Saturday.

Sarah Nurse, Emma Maltais, Kristen Campbell and the injured Natalie Spooner received the biggest roars during introductions. And when the Sceptres and Boston Fleet lined up at the blue lines for the anthems, anticipation was high among the towel-waving crowd of 8,089.

After captain Hilary Knight scored just three minutes into their season opener against the Toronto Sceptres, the Fleet struggled to get shots on net for the final 57 minutes.

Hannah Miller was camped netside with Toronto on the power play and Hillary Knight in the penalty box after a dangerous boarding penalty left Renata Fast slow to get up. Miller was Janey on the Spot as a Daryl Watts rebound bounced directly to her and she made no mistake hitting the wide open net.

PWHL fans in Ontario don’t have to wait any longer, as the Toronto Sceptres hit the ice with their home opener game this weekend. The game against the Boston Fleet takes place at the Coca-Cola Coliseum at Exhibition Place Saturday, Nov. 30, with the puck drop at 2 p.m.
