Gunnar Henderson hit a two-run drive in the eighth inning for his first career pinch-hit homer, and the Baltimore Orioles beat the New York Mets 3-1 in the opener of a doubleheader.

Interim manager Tony Mansolino pulled the trigger at the right time, and Charlie Morton, Grant Wolfram, and Félix Bautista put together an excellent nine innings.

The series is now tied at one game apiece following Baltimore’s late rally for a 3-1 win. Gunner Henderson came off the bench and stroked a two-run pinch hit home run in the bottom of the eighth to propel the O’s to the win. David Peterson (7IP, 1ER) and Charlie Morton (6IP, 1ER) engaged in a pitchers’ duel until Henderson’s heroics.

Jesse Winker’s lower back will be treated with medication over the next five to seven days before the Mets reevaluate the veteran DH.

Right-hander Ryne Stanek relieved David Peterson and served up a two-run home run to Orioles’ Gunnar Henderson, overtaking the Mets for a 2-1 win.

The Orioles did end up trading Tejada after the 2007 season when he was even less of a power threat. He topped out at 15 home runs in 2010 which would be his last full season in the majors. The 2002 MVP was under team control through 2008, eventually re-signing with the Orioles after the 2009 following a pair of seasons with the Houston Astros.
