A dangerous line of snow squalls was located along a line extending from Jay to near Woodstock, moving southeast at 40 mph. The hazards include intense bursts of heavy snow and gusty winds leading to blowing snow.

TIMING OF SNOW: Snow arrives late morning for most of Maine, quickly picking up in intensity. Heavy snowfall is likely early to mid afternoon, gradually tapering off heading into the evening. Snow will likely end as some freezing drizzle or sleet, an icy glaze is likely on top of the snow. All precipitation should be mostly over by 9pm.

ARLINGTON, Va. − A wall of snow, ice and rain was sweeping across the Northeast on Thursday, the first in a series of storms forecast to wallop much of the nation's northern tier over the next several days.

Snow will fall from Minnesota to Maine, with heavy amounts probably falling from Wisconsin to Massachusetts. Freezing rain and sleet will also be a big issue, especially south of Interstate 80 from Ohio through New Jersey.
