A veteran El Cajon police officer with deep roots in the East County community has been tapped to be the next chief of the El Cajon Police Department. Capt. Jeremiah Larson will become the city’s 16th police chief when he steps into role on Dec. 18, following his selection by El Cajon City Manager Graham Mitchell, the city announced Tuesday.

"This grant is beneficial to the city of El Cajon and will fund many police operations focusing on enforcement and education for alcohol related offenses occurring within the city of El Cajon," said a statement from the ECPD Special Enforcement Unit.

After the sitting police chief Mike Moulton declared his retirement earlier this year, the city of El Cajon announced his successor Tuesday.
