Cyclone Fengal will likely become a cyclonic storm, causing heavy to moderate rains in Tamil Nadu. Schools in 11 districts, including Chennai and Puducherry, will be shut on November 29 and November 30.

Cyclone Fengal is forecasted to hit Tamil Nadu's coastline Saturday evening, prompting red alerts due to anticipated extreme rainfall. Coastal districts prepare for heavy winds and flooding, with authorities urging caution.

On the day of landfall, severe rainfall is expected in seven coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, and neighbouring areas. Delta and northern interior districts are also likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday.

Cyclone Fengal is likely to continue to move northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram close to Puducherry during the afternoon hours of Nov. 30.

With Cyclonic Storm ’Fengal’ approaching the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, a senior IMD official said that there was will be fairly widespread moderate rainfall in most of the parts of the state.

In a move to protect the safety of students, the Tamil Nadu government has ordered all schools and colleges in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kanchipuram, and Chengalpattu districts to remain closed on November 30.
