After tech interruptions coinciding with scheduled construction, CEO of United Airlines assures the public that there is a set date for Newark airport to return to reliability

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) briefly slowed air traffic at Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday because a new telecommunications issue affected the Philadelphia facility

Air traffic control equipment failures and staffing shortages have fueled mass flight delays, and led the airport’s biggest airline to cancel dozens of daily flights over the coming weeks.

The claims, which the Federal Aviation Administration hasn’t confirmed, emerged a week after Newark airspace controllers lost all communication for as long as 90 seconds.

To combat widespread cancellations and delays at Newark, the FAA announced staffing increases and system upgrades -- but didn't give a timeline on when those changes will take place.

The bottom line is the airport has become so unreliable over the years. It’s getting worse and worse and worse,” a former air traffic controller said.
